Gowda’s potential shines again at La Conca
Confident he would have the pace to fight at the front, 13-year-old racer Dion Gowda arrived at Circuito Internazionale Napoli for the first time since August 2020 for WSK Super Masters Round 2.
Dion’s conviction was proven true in Friday’s Qualifying and Heat racing sessions, with the young Indian driver logging the 6th fastest time of the session to start each Heat on the second row.
Heats
Starting from 3rd, Dion attacked the first two Heats to score 5th and 2nd respectively, outshining his fellow Ricky Flynn Motorsport team-mates for the first time in 2021. Heat 3 would bring the first bad luck of the weekend however, as another kart landed on top of Dion’s rear end to take him out of contention on lap 1 – and add a difficult 25-point deficit to overcome for the rest of the weekend.
For the final Heat of the weekend, Dion returned true to his form with another 3rd place finish, just 1.2s behind race winner Akshay Bohra.
Finals
Despite Dion’s troubled third Heat, the young Indian driver lined up 11th overall in the Qualifying Heat standings, and second of his Ricky Flynn Motorsport team-mates. This would place Dion 6th on the grid for Sunday’s Pre-Final A.
In another disappointing turn of bad luck, Dion would lose over 2 laps to his competitors at the start of Sunday’s main Final event as a lap 1 incident took him out of contention.
