Indian kart star Dion Gowda began 2021 with a performance to remember at Adria International Circuit. Following a productive off-season, Dion stepped into the Adria International Circuit race weekend with huge potential and was rewarded with fantastic results in the Heats. Whilst the Final proved frustrating, the overall success of weekend hinted towards a good year ahead.

Heats

After a strong showing in practice, Friday afternoon saw Dion compete in his first Heat of the weekend, and his impressive pace and P4 finish set the tone for the following day. On Saturday morning Dion improved further on his last result, putting in an excellent performance that secured him 3rd place in Heat 2, his best result of the weekend.

Encouraged by his pace, the young Indian racer went on to achieve results of 8th and 4th in Heats 3 and 4 but was unlucky when a penalty in Heat 5 resulted in a 18th place finish to round off the Saturday. Despite the disappointment of the last Heat, Dion and coach Harrison from Kokoro Performance were confident that the pace was there and would stand him in good stead in the Pre-Final.

Finals

The first finals day of an exciting season began with the Pre-Finals races, with Dion competing in Group A. Whilst not quite achieving the results of the previous days, Dion easily made the cut, crossing the line in 11th place and securing a solid standing position for the afternoon’s Final. Unfortunately, the Final did not plan out as hoped for the young racer, after he was taken out by a competitor on only the second hairpin of Lap 1.

Despite this incident, Dion and the team were very satisfied with the weekend overall. He proved incredibly competitive in the Heats, achieving top 5 finishes against over 30 of his peers, and the speed demonstrated throughout stands him in good stead for next weekend’s WSK Super Masters.

With the WSK Champions Cup behind him, Dion returns to Adria this weekend for Round1 of the four-round WSK Super Masters series.
